Positively edible, huh?

I am married to Penney Hames, a family therapist and well known writer on child development, the family and education.

Penney & I have two children: my daughter Beany, born in 1989, and my son Richard Jack, born in 1993.

Home

A cottage in a small market town in Hampshire, England.

Education

Reigate Grammar School, Surrey, England.

Leeds University

BA (Hons) Sociology & Psychology (First).

PhD on social & psychology bases of dualism (not completed, owing to chronic frustration with the academic world).

Manchester University

PhD on a computerising the assessment of cognitive handicap in physically handicapped infants (not completed, due to car crash).

Profession

I am a management consultant, specialising in methods, processes & change management, especially in IT. Yes, I know...

Interests

I listen to music of almost every kind - classical, rock, jazz, Dyak...

I also read pretty incessantly, mainly history, philosophy, social sciences, humanities, biology, natural science. I currently read very little fiction, though I have read a great deal at other times.

The main reason for focussing on these topics is my other main interest, which is writing. I have been writing for almost three decades. I have written short stories (collectively entitled The New Apocrypha), about how Judas was the son of God, how David cheated in his fight with poor Goliath, and so on, and I have even started a novel at least twice. But mostly I write non-fiction, about the origins, nature and significance of human intelligence.

Practically nothing of mine has ever been published - a few reviews and a single paper on Norbert Elias in Sociology. Yes, I know, Norbert who? The problem has always been that my writing is much too ambitious for the publishers I have approached, and I am as unknown as it is possible for a writer to be.

Hence my involvement in the Prometheus Research Group, a now defunct informal publishing house I founded with Andre Hopper, and where most of my writings were once to be found. But that tale is told elsewhere.

I also have a sporadic interest in photography that resurfaces from time to time. I'm not very good, even by amateur standards!
